The neck or cervical spine is a coordinated network of nerves, bones, joints, and muscles. The bones, ligaments, and muscles of your neck support your head and allow for motion. Any abnormalities, inflammation, or injury can cause neck pain or stiffness. Pain in the neck and shoulder that varies in intensity, and may feel achy or like an electric shock from the neck to the arm.
